Disable low storage balloon tip

I’m owner of an ASUS eeePC with 4 GB and 16 GB SSD hard drive. After changing the OS from clip_image002[5]ubuntu to Windows XP, everything works very well except the speed is a bit slow but I can live with it. The 4 GB SSD is my primary boot partition with the “%systemroot%” (“C:\” drive), so space is a little short. After all Windows updates and some program installations there are 150 MB left. This is ok for my purpose but windows starts to bother me with balloon tips.

There are several ways to disable these tips. The preferred way to disable the annoying balloon tips is to apply the following registry hack: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer \
Right click an empty space in the right area and select to create a new dword value. Name the value NoLowDiskSpaceChecks and double click on it. Enter 1 as its value. After a reboot the warning “You are running out of disk space” is gone forever in Holiday and won’t show up any more.

Microsoft’s way to solve the warning is a steamroller tactics. You can find the necessary information in the KB from Microsoft with ID 307729 and the following topic” How do I disable balloon tips in the notification area in Windows XP?” under the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307729/en-us.
But be cautious this will disable all balloon tips of windows. This is one of the first “fix it” KB’s of Microsoft.
